News

  • Comcast has officially dropped their bid to purchase 20th Century Fox's non-news related assets, clearing the path for Disney to gain a load of new content, including the return or X-Men and The Fantastic 4 to Marvel, and full ownership of the original Star Wars movie, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.  Comcast is still pursuing Sky, which Fox has, and is selling as part of their assets, a large stake in.
  • DC Universe details:  Launching this Fall.  $74.99 annual or $7.99 monthly plans, pre-order subscriptions available now, with those who pre-order during Comic Con being entered for a chance to win tickets to the premiere of Aquaman.  The new series Titans launches with the service which will also include all of DC's legacy content, new movies that are out of theaters like Justice League and Wonder Woman, and access to DC's digital comics library.
  • It is official, members of the SAG-AFTRA union for Voice Actors have voted to strike for better residuals from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon.
  • Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland has a slate of 8 new shows coming Netflix:  The Residence, based on the book by Kate Andersen Brower.  An untitled project about Con-Woman Anna Delvey. An adaptation of Ellen Pao’s memoir Reset: My Fight for Inclusion and Lasting ChangeAn untilted project based on the Bridgerton novels by Julia Quinn.  The Warmth of Other Suns, based on the novel by Isabel Wilkerson.  Pico & Sepulveda, which take spalce in the 1840s in the Mexican state of California.  Sunshine Scouts, a dark comedy about teenage girls in the apocalypse.  Lastly, there is the documentary Hot Chocolate Nutcracker, about an inclusive remake of The Nutcracker.  
  • Star Trek Discovery's Alex Kurtzman revealed Star Trek: Short Treks is coming to CBS All Access.  The short series of 4 10-15 minute self contained stories connects to Discovery's overall plot.
  • Fox is working with Canal+ on a modern telling of HG Wells' classic War of the Worlds.  This iteration of the science fiction classic is being developed by Howard Overman (Misfits).
  • 20th Century Fox is working with Joss Whedon on a more inclusive reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  The new version will feature an African American lead, and will be run by Monica Owusu-Breen (Agents of SHIELD).
  • DC Universe has yet another live action DC series in development.  Star Girl is coming to the platform, where it will be produced by Greg Berlanti (The Flash) and the comic's Creator Geoff Johns.
  • Netflix has picked up Hit And Run, a new spy drama from the team behind Fauda, Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, and the team behind Z: The Beginning of Everything, Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin.
  • Netflix has made a series order for a yet untitled drama about Arsene Lupin, the famous gentleman Burglar character from the novels by Maurice Leblanc.  Omar Sy (The Intouchables) will portray the literary Thief.
  • Netflix has officially picked up Black Summer, the Z Nation spin-off starring Jaime King (Hart of Dixie).
  • The Lost City Explorers has been picked up by Universal Television, who plan to adapt the comic books by Zack Kaplan into a television series.
  • Shudder, the horror themed cable channel, VoD, and streaming service are going to reboot the 1982 horror anthology movie Creepshow as an anthology series.  The Walking Dead's Greg Nicotero is on board the series as a Producer and Director, while his effects company KNB EFX will be handling all of the makeup effects.
  • The title of American Horror Story's upcoming 8th season, a cross-over of season 1's Murder House and season 3's Coven, has been revealed to be Apocalypse
  • The villain for Krypton's upcoming second season has been announced to be Lobo.
  • Supergirl is bringing the first trans Superhero to TV with Nicole Maines (Royal Pains) as Nia Nal/Dreamer 
  • Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Lewis Tan (Deadpool 2), Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy), and Tzi Ma (The Man in the High Castle) have joined the cast of Netflix's new martial arts series Wu Assassins.
  • Samantha Morton (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) is joining the cast of The Walking Dead as Alpha, the leader of The Whisperers.
  • Rebecca Romijn (The Librarians) has been cast as "Number One" in Star Trek: Discovery.
  • Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) has joined the cast of Amazon's Good Omens as God.
  • Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is joining the cast of season 2 of Jack Ryan on Amazon as Harriet “Harry” Baumann, a German Agent.
  • Amber Tamblyn (Django Unchained) has joined the cast of FX's upcoming adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's beloved comic book series Y: The Last Man Tamblyn will portray the politically savvy Daughter of the President of the United States, Mariette Callows.
  • Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street) has been cast opposite Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) in Showtimes remake of the British comedy series The Wrong Mans.  Bell will be portraying a gender flipped version of James Cordon's character from the original series, a delusional oddball who inserts themself into the life of the other series lead as it takes an unexpected and unwanted turn towards international espionage.  The original series can be streamed, in its entirety, on Hulu.
  • Laura Vandervoort (Smallville), Kyle Breitkopf (Wonder), and Kimberly-Sue Murray (Crimson Peak) have joined the cast of V-Wars, the new vampire drama at Netflix.
  • Jason Clarke (Everest) has been cast opposite Helen Mirren (RED) in Catherine The Great as Grigory Potemkin, a Russian Commander and Catherine's lover, for HBO/Sky.
  • Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) has been cast in the upcoming season of The Walking Dead.
  • Ismael Cruz Córdova (Ray Donovan) has joined the cast of Berlin Station as Rafael Torres, as an unorthodox former military man and series regular.
  • How to Get Away with Murder has upped Amirah Vann to series regular for the shows upcoming 5th season.
  • The Walking Dead Creator Robert Kirkman has confirmed that series Lead Andrew Lincoln will be departing the series during the shows upcoming 9th season.
  • Agents of SHIELD's Phil Coulson himself, Clark Gregg, will be directing the first episode of the series 6th season.
  • Renewals:  YouTube has renewed Impulse for a second season.  Cloak and Dagger has been renewed by Freeform for a second season.  A 4th season of Wynonna Earp has been ordered by SyFy.  The Man in the High Castle has been picked up for a 4th season, ahead of its upcoming 3rd.  
  • Cancellations:  Colony was cancelled by USA after 3 season, Netflix's Voltron will come to a close with its upcoming 8th season.
